The early history of light bulbs
The light bulb is an American invention, Thomas Alva Edison had a break-through that would forever change our homes in 1880. His first light bulbs were really electric lamps where a filament is heated to incandescence by electricity. Today's light bulbs use filaments made of tungsten instead of carbon.
My personal story
I have a beautiful victorian antique dressing fixture. The room features everything from a hand-crafted powder box to carefully composed historical color harmony. For a long time, the light in the room was provided by standard glass light bulbs you buy in home depot, but then one day I stumbled upon an Antique light Bulb in an antique store. When I came home, I promptly looked it up on Amazon and found georgeous Victorian style antique light bulbs that matched my home decor perfectly! I have so many people that compliment my room, and curious souls are always wondering where I got the light bulbs from!
What are some popular antique light bulb periods?
A very popular antique light bulb is the replica of Thomas Edison's original prototype. But in the early 1900's there are some beautiful designs as well. My personal favorite is the Victorian era, because it matches my home decor. There is also art nouveau, and few people know that you can even find Soviet-era light bulbs from Russia. Let your imagination run wild!
Where to buy?
My two cents, but I find the best selection online. I know there's still those out there that doubt if it's safe, but just use reputable sites who pay for advertising / marketing, or established websites. I really save a lot of money since I have the chance to compare dozens of designs instead of traveling all over the world and visiting all antique stores for a working light bulb!View post: The Charming appeal of Antique Light Bulbs
